Sputa il rospo
2022 (in progress)
Sputa il rospo (meaning to “spit the toad,” or “spit it out”) focuses on the women that raised me – my mother, her mother, and her mother’s mother. Working with collage, vernacular, and personal photographs, this series of images utilizes constructed symbolic, narrative images to explore the trauma these women faced in their life and the impact generational trauma has had on my life. Reflecting on this dubious inheritance, these images challenge the viewer to contemplate that we are products of our ancestors and their history, caretakers of that legacy, that we never fully escape the past. In this space, I can begin to understand the complexities of my own identity and confront the ghosts of my past.
